Robert A. Tester, MD

Dr. Robert Tester is a comprehensive eyecare provider and a leader in laser-assisted and microincisional cataract surgery. Having performed more than 10,000 surgeries, he is one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in the region. He combines experience and expertise in the most advanced laser eye surgeries as well as in the medical management of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Dr. Tester is also a published author in many major ophthalmic journals, and has done extensive research on intraocular lenses, cataract surgery and glaucoma.

Gary W. Chung, MD

Dr. Chung is a leader in bladeless, microincisional cataract surgery and laser vision surgery with a special interest in dry eye disease. Fellowship-trained in cornea and external diseases of the eye, Dr. Chung believes in optimizing the health of the ocular surface before surgery to achieve the best results for patients. He has participated in numerous research studies, has been published in several ophthalmic journals, and authored a chapter in the most widely used textbook for corneal disorders. Having performed thousands of surgeries, Dr. Chung combines his expertise and training with a deep commitment to patient care. He has been named by his peers as a Top Doctor in Seattle Magazine and Seattle Met Magazine.

Brice R. Nicholson, DO

Dr. Nicholson specializes in LASIK and bladeless cataract microsurgery as well as comprehensive medical and surgical eyecare. In 2014, Dr. Nicholson retired from the US Navy, where he served as director of refractive surgery at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was also selected to be the director of the Warfighter Refractive Surgery Center and head of the ophthalmology department at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Nicholson today has the experience that comes from having performed over 15,000 cataract and refractive surgery procedures.

Kelly M. Bui, MD

Dr. Bui is a fellowship-trained medical retina specialist and board-certified ophthalmologist who has helped more than 10,000 people see their best and protect their eye health. A Seattle native, Dr. Bui chose to become a physician because she desired to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Later, she chose a career in ophthalmology because of its blend of medical and surgical techniques. Dr. Bui has authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals, written chapters in eyecare textbooks, and given presentations at various institutions and professional conferences. She is fluent in Vietnamese, bonds with patients and puts them at ease with her friendly nature and commitment to their needs. Dr. Bui also is an experienced cataract surgeon who uses today’s most advanced, patient-friendly techniques.

Laura M. Periman, MD

Dr. Laura Periman is an ocular surface disease specialist, but also enjoys general ophthalmology for all age groups. She also has a personal interest in cornea and ocular surface diseases that started while she was a research assistant at Immunex (now Amgen) in 1991. Her early training in Immunology has fostered a keen interest in the inflammatory and immunologic mechanisms of dry eye disease and other ocular surface diseases. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist and educator of other eye care professionals, offering her expertise as a recognized international speaker.

John J Whitehead, MD

Dr. Whitehead strives to provide superior ophthalmic care to patients focusing on glaucoma specialty care, advanced cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. Fellowship-trained in glaucoma, Dr. Whitehead believes in exploring every possible treatment path from medicinal to surgical options. He believes each patient is unique and each treatment path is a collaborative process. He has been published in ophthalmic journals and has spoken extensively on advancements in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Whitehead has performed thousands of surgeries and is driven to excel by providing positive outcomes to his patients and their families. He is a dedicated son, husband, and father of four beautiful children. He continues to be committed to community health and wellbeing for his own family and yours.

Bradley A. Frederickson, OD

One of the first 500 doctors in the nation recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, Dr. Frederickson specializes in medical eyecare and provides follow-up care for people who’ve had cataract or refractive surgery. Dr. Frederickson is licensed by the State of Washington to examine, diagnose and treat many eye diseases and injuries. Since joining Evergreen Eye Center in 1994, Dr. Frederickson has become a well-known and highly regarded optometrist dedicated exclusively to medical eyecare.

James Santoro, OD

Dr. Santoro is a third generation eye doctor; he developed a deep respect for the care provided by his Father to his patients, seeing firsthand how vision can affect a patient’s quality of life immensely. His approach is to put the Patient first, listen to their needs and do whatever he can to make a positive difference.

Dr. Santoro received his OD degree from Pacific University College of Optometry and continued his professional educational trajectory attending law school and graduating with a JD degree from Seattle University School of Law. Dr. Santoro specializes in medical eye care and provides follow up care for post-op cataract and Lasik patients. He also serves as an adjunct instructor with Pacific University College of Optometry offering an on-line medical legal course. Recently, Dr. Santoro was awarded the People’s Choice Award—an award that recognizes a healthcare provider by their peers for being highly competent in their specialty, for being a consummate team player and for being a mentor to other providers and staff.

Dr. Santoro chose to practice at Evergreen Eye Center for the opportunity to work with a highly competent, professional group of physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the patient and for the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that works together to preserve the gift of sight for all of the Evergreen Eye Center patients.
