Open Your Eyes to

Visual Freedom
with EVO ICL

Do you want better vision? Even if you don’t qualify for popular procedures like LASIK, you may be the perfect candidate for the EVO ICL. EVO ICLs can treat nearsightedness and astigmatism. Evergreen Eye Center is excited to make this revolutionary vision correction procedure available to our patients seeking visual freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

What is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is an additive lens placed inside the eye to help correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. It’s made of a distinctive material called collamer, which comes from collagen.

Collamer is uniquely biocompatible with the chemistry of your eye, meaning it won’t cause dry eyes. One of the advantages of the EVO ICL is that it can correct higher amounts of nearsightedness than procedures like LASIK.

It’s also the only reversible and removable vision correction procedure available. This gives patients peace of mind, making it a benefit if you’re unsure about permanently altering your cornea. The EVO ICL also does not require removing tissue from the cornea to correct vision because it’s a tiny, flexible lens placed behind your iris and in front of your natural lens.

How Does the EVO ICL Work?

The EVO ICL sits behind your iris and in front of your natural lens to correct nearsightedness and mild astigmatism in qualified patients.

Once the EVO ICL is inserted in your eye, it’ll be like it’s not even there, as it’s thin and virtually invisible. Nobody needs to know it’s there except for you.

Light enters your eye and passes through the cornea and the EVO ICL. With the EVO ICL implanted, it will focus light onto the retina and send what you see to your brain, allowing you to see clearly.

With the EVO ICL, you can look forward to sharp, crisp vision that’s better than with glasses or contact lenses alone. EVO ICL provides sharp, clear vision during the day and beautiful, vibrant vision at night without visual aids.

One distinct advantage of the EVO ICL is that it works with your eye and its structures. It doesn’t alter the shape of your cornea or remove any tissue from it, making the procedure reversible if you choose.

However, this also means that the EVO ICL is an excellent choice for patients with dry eyes or thin corneas. These patients are often not good candidates for other laser eye procedures like LASIK.

Who is a Good Candidate for the EVO ICL?

Although the EVO ICL may sound like the perfect vision correction procedure for you, it’s only suitable for some. You may be a good candidate for the EVO ICL if:

  • You’re between 21 and 45 years of age
  • You’re nearsighted between -3.00 diopters and -20.00 diopters (this is usually the first number on your prescription) with astigmatism of up to 4.00 diopters (second number)
  • You have realistic expectations about what EVO ICL could achieve if you undergo the procedure
  • You have a stable prescription that’s remained unchanged for at least a year or more

How Does the EVO ICL Work?

Your ophthalmologist will give you specific instructions before the EVO ICL procedure at Evergreen Eye Center. These instructions will help you understand how to prepare for the procedure.

You should not wear makeup on the day of your procedure to prevent particles from getting into your eyes. You’ll also need someone to drive you to and from your surgery appointment, as you cannot drive yourself home.

On the day of your EVO ICL procedure, you’ll receive numbing and dilating eye drops. These drops ensure you won’t feel pain or discomfort during the procedure. Once the drops have the surface numb and the eyes dilated, the procedure can start.

Your surgeon will have you lie down and then use a device to help keep your eye open during the procedure. They will then create a small incision in your cornea to insert the EVO ICL.

After inserting the EVO ICL through the incision, they will position it behind your iris.

There are no stitches or sutures, as the incision will close and seal independently. Both eyes are completed on the same day, and the procedure only takes about 30 minutes.

Once cleared by our staff, you can return home and enjoy your new vision! We will provide several post operative exams to ensure you are healing well.

What’s the Recovery Process Like After EVO ICL?

After the EVO ICL procedure, you can look forward to a quick recovery. Most patients notice significant visual improvements within 24 hours of the procedure.

You should be able to return to your usual routine after a day or two. After the procedure, you may notice slight discomfort, itching, or burning as the numbing eye drops wear off.

These side effects should dissipate and improve after a few hours. You may also notice that your eyes are red and watery, with increased light sensitivity and blurry vision, which should improve after a few days.

Your ophthalmologist at Evergreen Eye Center will prescribe eye drops to prevent infection and reduce inflammation, so it is necessary to take these as directed. You’ll also need to wear sunglasses outdoors, avoid rubbing or touching your eyes, not wear eye makeup for two weeks, and not take part in strenuous exercises or activities until cleared to do so.

You’ll be required to attend follow-up appointments at Evergreen Eye Center to monitor your progress and ensure no complications or signs of infection. Most people can return to work the day after undergoing the EVO ICL procedure. The best part? You’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful new vision!

Are Results of the EVO ICL Permanent?

EVO ICL is meant to be a permanent vision correction procedure. However, if you change your mind about it, you can reverse the procedure, restoring your vision to its former state before you had the EVO ICL.

EVO ICL also allows you to have the additive lens removed from your eye if you need a procedure like refractive lens exchange or cataract surgery in the future. If this is the case, you’ll have the EVO ICL removed and replaced with an artificial lens, called an intraocular lens, allowing you to see clearly.
