History of Evergreen Eye Center
Evergreen Eye Center was founded in 1989 by John S. Jarstad, M.D., who had a vision of a state-of-the-art surgery center serving the Pacific Northwest. He envisioned the facility as a recognized center-of-excellence, with a highly advanced surgery center and a knowledgeable and compassionate medical team that would provide a superior level of eye and patient care. Today, over 20 years later, Dr. Jarstad’s vision of Evergreen Eye Center as a leader in comprehensive vision care excellence has become a reality. John S. Jarstad, M.D.
Dr. Jarstad specializes in cataract and laser vision surgery, as well as treatment of diseases of the anterior segment of the eye. He completed both his medical residency and his internship at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and has been named one of America’s top ophthalmologists by the Consumer Research Council.. Dr. Jarstad is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a pioneer in performing the first cataract surgery in Washington without stitches and also the inventor of the Jarstad cataract surgery marker. Dr. Jarstad is certified for the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure and LASIK. As the founder of Evergreen Eye Center, Dr. Jarstad has achieved his vision of creating a comprehensive, state-of-the-art eye care facility.
Robert A. Tester, M.D.
Dr. Tester has been part of the Evergreen Eye Center team since 2004 and has distinguished himself as a leading microincisional cataract surgeon and comprehensive eye care provider. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s ophthalmology program, one of the top-five eye surgery training programs in the nation, Dr. Tester brings with him the latest in laser surgery technology, as well as expertise in the medical management and surgical treatment of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Dr. Tester is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a published author in many of the major ophthalmic journals, Dr. Tester is certified for the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure and has done extensive research on intraocular lenses, cataract surgery, and glaucoma.
Gary W. Chung, M.D.
Dr. Chung specializes in the treatment of corneal disorders and other external diseases of the eye. He has completed a subspecialty fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of Minnesota. Prior to this, he received his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Chung is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has participated in a number of research studies with several publications in ophthalmologic journals. He recently authored a chapter in Cornea, the most widely used textbook for corneal disorders. Dr. Chung is certified for the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure and LASIK. Dr. Chung combines his expertise and training with a deep commitment to patient care.
Linda E. Day, M.D.
Dr. Day specializes in the treatment of retinal disorders, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, in addition to comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. She completed a two-year vitreo-retinal fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. During her fellowship she was extensively involved in retinal transplant research. Prior to this, Dr. Day obtained her B.A. at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and her M.D. at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, NY. Her medical internship and ophthalmology residency were both completed at Saint Vincents Medical Center, also in New York City. Dr. Day served as chief resident in her final year of residency. Dr. Day is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Day has been an integral member of the Evergreen Eye Center team since 2002.
Bradley A. Frederickson, O.D.
One of the first 500 physicians in the nation recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, Dr. Frederickson specializes in medical eye care and provides follow-up care for cataract and refractive surgery patients. He also provides routine care. As an optometrist licensed by the state of Washington, he can examine, diagnose, and treat many diseases and injuries of the eye. To receive his Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Frederickson completed four years of undergraduate study and four years of optometry school at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr Frederickson also completed a one year Residency Program at the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Center in Reno, NV. Dr. Frederickson is certified by the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Physicians of Washington. He joined the team at Evergreen Eye Center in 1994.
Dean M. Conger, M.D.
Dr. Conger has been practicing ophthalmology in the Burien area since 1997. In 2008 he merged his practice with Evergreen Eye Center to provide his patients with a broader array of services and diagnostic capabilities. He obtained his undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley and his M.D. degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C. After completing his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington, he participated in the glaucoma research program at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Upon completion of his ophthalmology residency in New Jersey, he and his wife returned to Seattle where they reside with their three daughters. Dr. Conger is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Jennifer L. Kannberg, O.D.
Dr. Kannberg provides comprehensive vision examinations as well as follow-up care for surgery patients. She received a four-year Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College in Forest Grove, Oregon, graduating with honors. Prior to this she obtained her B.A. in Biology from Central Washington University. Dr. Kannberg has been part of the Evergreen Eye Center physician team since 2009. She enjoys examining and treating a wide variety of patients while focusing on excellent patient care. Dr. Kannberg has served as a volunteer in Europe providing eye care and eye wear to thousands in need.
Hans O. Bjorn, O.D.
Evergreen Eye Center is pleased to welcome back Dr. Hans Bjorn as the newest member of the Evergreen Eye Center physician team. Dr. Bjorn is a recent graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon - one of the top Optometry training programs in the world. Dr. Bjorn attended Fife High School and has lived in the Federal Way area all (most of) his life. He graduated from Brigham Young University and worked at Evergreen Eye Center as an ophthalmic technician and intern during his summers away from college. His experience as a highly skilled eye technician along with his outstanding academic training at Pacific University make him a welcome addition to our physician team. Dr. Bjorn is available for new patient consultations and will also assist in the care of our post op cataract, ICL and LASIK patients.
